First of all, my intent is not to spread any rumors about why Shaunie O’Neal has filed for legal separationfrom her husband, Shaquille O’Neal, a couple of days ago.

I just want it to be known that all pro athlete’s wives are NOTdummies and gold diggers. Shaunie O’Neal actually went to law school to pursue a degree in law. I am unsure if she has taken the bar exam, but, obviously, she is very knowledgeable about law and will use it to her advantage.

A couple of years ago, when Shaq filed for divorce from Shaunie, Shaq’s expensive team of attorneys were clueless. They couldn’t figure out her real estate assets. It was impossible to uncover this information since she had not purchased anything in her name. The real estate was purchased years ago, and the deed was placed in a Trust, not her name.

A trust is a legal arrangement in which an individual (the trustor, ex. Shaunie O’Neal) gives control of an estate to a person or organization (trustee – which could be anyone). Most deeds on a home have the owner’s name on the deed. A person can quitclaim a deed on their home over to a The owner on the deed becomes the trust. The trust is not a public record. The only item that appears on file is the quitclaim deed of the person transferring the house over to the trust. The trust will state who the trustee is (which can be anyone…a relative, an attorney). The trustee is just the administrator on the trust while you are living. The owner of the trust is unknown unless someone has the filed paperwork. The trust does not need to be filed in the court house, but it must be notarized and kept in a safe place. Each state has different laws so it is wise to check your states requirements regarding rusts.
A person can also put their bank account in a trust. If a business or person is attempting to garnish money in a bank account, they will be unable to do so because it’s not in that person’s name anymore. The bank account is in the trust’s name now. Another smart move Shaunie just made is moving to California 2 days ago and filing for separation. California is known for spouses for getting half of everything. I wish that they would be able to work everything out. They seemed like they were trying, but I’m afraid it’s about to get ugly.
